The Need: 

Public Citizen is a non-profit committed to ensuring that all citizens are represented in the halls of power in Washington, DC. For more than four decades, they have proudly championed citizen interests before Congress to challenge corporate power and hold the government accountable.

Public Citizen was in need of comprehensive social media management to help engage and grow their large audiences across Facebook and Twitter, as well as ongoing strategic consulting as they added new staff and programs.

The Solution:

The Good Lemon managed Public Citizen’s Facebook and Twitter accounts for seven months, developing a social media strategy guide, a shared editorial calendar, and frequent interactions with staff across programs. Since Public Citizen’s success is due to effectively engaging their audience to take action on issues across a wide spectrum, the calendar organized input and breaking news from many different team members and events.

We created content, created and distribute graphics, and provided weekly metrics reports on the social content. Based on these metrics we refined messaging and calls to action to increase their effectiveness. We also assisted with high-level online and large, in-person events with partners like and Consumers Union. And we provided ongoing strategic consulting to all staff regarding social media, digital marketing, live video, and other topics of interest.

    The Results 

        Public Citizen’s Facebook and Twitter audiences grew steadily from March-October 2016.

        Their Facebook audience increased by over 3,000 fans, crossing the 50,000 mark, and post engagement positively increased over time.

        Their Twitter audience increased by over 3,000 new Twitter Followers and daily impressions grew, on average, to 30,000 impressions per day.
